Creating a Civilized Divorce Video Vault

Introductory Offer

The Creating a Civilized Divorce Video Vault will have close to 200 videos covering the answers to as many questions as we can think of that will assist people who are separating and divorcing to create a civilized and respectful end to their relationship.  And, in the case of couples with children, to redefine their relationship into a healthy, supportive co-parenting partnership.

The information is jurisdiction independent and is presented in short, to the point videos so that viewers can find exactly what they’re looking for without having to watch hours of less relevant video.  It in no way replaces the need for lawyers, mediators, counsellors, financial advisors, mortgage brokers or any other professional.  What it does do is provide people with information so that they can enter into their process of choice with confidence, preparation and hopefully some emotional balance.

At the moment there are 150+ videos loaded to the vault with the remainder to be made available between now and January 1st, 2014.  At that time the product will become tiered, with approximately half the videos available for a Basic subscription and the entire Vault being available to a Premium subscriber.  We will also be adding a set of tools – worksheets, workbooks, calculators – at an add-on price.

As our Introductory Offer we are offering your customers access to the complete, Premium, Video Vault for the Basic subscription price.  As the additional videos become available between now and the end of this year, they will be loaded and become immediately accessible to all Introductory Offer subscribers.

Why Have a Civilized Divorce?

The two most common responses that I receive regarding the name Civilized Divorce are these:

1. Well, that’s an oxymoron
2. I want one of those … but my spouse doesn’t

The cynic and the defeatist! The reality is that it is not an oxymoron for a growing number of divorcing couples and that if you really want one, it is often yours to create.

Putting aside the question of “is it really possible?”, let’s look at the more significant question of “why would you want it?”. Most people will immediately answer with “it’s better for the kids” or “it will save us money”, but the single most important reason needs to be that it will allow you to heal, grow and move forward into a bigger and better life. And that focus is what will really allow your kids and your wallet to avoid the largest scars and even flourish as a result of your divorce.

And the key to it all is a genuine desire for the divorce to be civilized. Like an alcoholic who agrees to give up alcohol in order to keep his marriage together but goes right back to drinking when the coast seems clear, deciding to act in a civilized manner during your divorce while all the while harbouring desires for revenge and retaliation, will create a sham that you’ll be unlikely to sustain.

Your marriage is over. Perhaps things could have been done to keep things on a healthy path. Perhaps mistakes were made. Perhaps one of you was more committed than the other. Perhaps if you had addressed things earlier. Perhaps … That’s the past. What’s important is now and were you want your life to go in the future.

Having a civilized divorce creates a springboard for discovery, growth and the creation of a whole new life based on experience, knowledge and conscious choice. You have that choice. Even in situations where one party is determined to be as uncivilized as they possibility can, you still have the power to react and behave by matching their approach or refusing to engage at the same emotional level. Sure it’s difficult when met with a wounded, retaliating “wildebeest” but how far are you going to choose to let that invade and permeate your life?

Focus on respecting yourself and your partner, focus on the needs of the whole, focus on your own responsibility, focus on possibility and remember your sense of humour. And do that all for your own sake and because you truly know and believe that that is what is called for.

The 10 Most Common Emotions Surrounding Divorce

Emotions come in many flavours, get described in many ways, get analyzed and classified in even more ways! In people going through separation and divorce, these are the top 10 emotions that I see everyday. You may recognize some of these in yourself, either where you are or where you’ve been. You may recognize some of these in your spouse. It may surprise you that some of these would make my “10 most common” list!

In alphabetical order!
Contempt –How could I possibly have married someone like you?
Despair – What will become of me and how can I possibly move forward from here?
Jealousy – How dare they be happy – no one will ever want me.
Guilt – Look at all the hurt I’ve caused – I need to pay for what I’ve done.
Loneliness – There will never be anyone out there for me.
Optimism – What’s possible now?
Relief – Thank goodness that’s over.
Revenge – You need to pay for what you’ve done to me.
Shame – I am worthless and unlovable – of course this happened to me.
Zest – I can do anything.

The important thing about emotions is that you allow yourself to feel them. Yes, even those “ugly” ones that you don’t want to admit that you have!

Emotions tend to come in waves and follow different patterns at different times. Don’t be surprised if you feel all of the above emotions at different times and sometimes even multiple of these at the same time. Your world has flipped upside down! And although you may move through the big waves of these emotions they will all continue to lap at your shore as you move on with your life.

So don’t be surprised (or self-recriminating) when these emotions appear. Remember, they are emotions they aren’t actions. And it’s the actions that cause trouble not the emotions. Feel what you feel, and act wisely.
